Enterprising Women was founded in September 2007 during Open 4 Business week and now has almost 45 members. The main purpose of the group is for professional and business ladies to have the opportunity to meet up and discuss all aspects of being a women in business in Dorset.

The group will meet next on 12th August at 6pm at Kingston Maurward where the event will be hosted by
Sue Moore of Weymouth College and also Laura McHarrie of Business Link. One of the aims of the group is to meet
bi monthly at different locations in and around Dorset to give variety and inspiration to the group. The topic for the August meeting is “networking” - like it or not, we network all the time. From the moment we start school we start building relationships.
These relationships continue into college, university, work; the church, the pub, the golf club. Nowadays, we can do it through online social networks like Facebook, LinkedIn, e-cademy and Business Scene and suddenly ‘networking’ is trendy again. So what do we need to do to make the most of this ongoing phenomenon in our business life?

Laura McHarrie, Business Advisor at Business Link, who runs the BusinessXchange she has a wealth of experience in business networking who has actually been there and shrunk most of the business tee-shirts she has worn. After an early climb up the corporate ladder, she has started two businesses, a retail outlet and a freelance practice. In between, she managed a medium sized fashion business that she had to liquidate during the millennium dot com boom. Working part time in a freight forwarding company she spent three years at Weymouth College – got a teaching qualification and now puts all that learning to practice in her management of the brilliant BusinessXchange service, a learning and support network for business owners.

Following the presentation the ladies can enjoy a Summer BBQ in the lovely grounds of Kingston Maurward College.
